Amelia
Santaniello & Frank Vascellaro
Amelia Santaniello anchors the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts on WCCO-TV. She joined the staff in May 1996.
City Pages editors named her Best Newscaster in the Twin Cities in 2000. Readers of The Minnesota Women’s Press picked her as their favorite local female television personality.
Amelia came to WCCO-TV from WTIC in Hartford, Conn., where she was the weekend anchor. She started her career in Washington, D.C., at WUSA, where she was a reporter trainee. From there, she went to WETM-TV in Elmira, N.Y., where she anchored the weekend newscasts. Then she moved on to WNEP-TV in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pa., where she reported and filled in as anchor.
Amelia was born in Alexandria, Va. She grew up in a career military family and lived in Virginia, Japan and Texas. She attended Marywood University in Dunmore, Pa.
She chose to make Minnesota her home because of its wealth of culture and entertainment, as well as the friendliness of its people.
“WCCO-TV is unique in its team atmosphere,” she says.
Amelia is an honorary board member of the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery. She’s also involved with several other Twin Cities Organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Cancer Kids Fund, Thank God for Kids and the Hope Chest for Breast Cancer.
In her free time, Amelia enjoys spending time with her family, reading and golfing. She lives in Minneapolis with her husband Frank, son Sam, and twins Francesca and Joseph.
Frank Vascellaro debuted with his wife, Amelia Santaniello, on WCCO 4 News at 6 on Thursday, June 29, 2006.
They are the first married couple to co-anchor a daily news program in the Twin Cities. They also anchor the 5 p.m. news Monday through Friday.
Prior to joining the WCCO-TV family, Frank worked at KARE 11 Television anchoring the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. news. During his nine years at the station, he hosted KARE 11 Saturday and anchored the early morning news, KARE 11 Sunrise for seven years.
Frank also worked at WAND-TV in Decatur, Ill. as a weekend anchor/reporter. Frank’s broadcasting experience also includes anchoring the 5 p.m. 6 p.m., and 10 p.m. newscasts at WHOI-TV in Peoria, Ill.
A Denver, Colo. native, Frank attended the United States Air Force Academy before transferring to the University of Colorado at Boulder. He later studied broadcasting at Columbia College in Chicago, Ill.
Frank is an Honorary Chair of the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery. He and Amelia are also involved with a number of charities and organizations in the Twin Cities. Minnesotans are very used to seeing them together as master of ceremonies for the annual events of the Cancer Kids Fund, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, The Children’s Cancer Research Fund, the Minnesota Children’s Museum and Children’s Heartlink, as well as many other organizations.
Frank married Amelia in 1999 in Florence, Italy. They have three children; a son Sam and twins Joseph and Francesca. They live in Minneapolis.
