Born on the eve of St. Patrick’s Day in 1952 
• Grew up in Litchfield, a town of 5,000 people, in central Minnesota
• Attended St. Phillip’s Catholic Grade School and Litchfield High School
• Spent two years in the Army----stationed in Germany
• Graduated from St. Cloud State University with a BS degree (all Irish guys have BS degrees)
• Have done some post graduate course work at the University of St. Thomas
• Met my wife, Mary, at a St. Patrick’s Day party----luck of the Irish
• We will celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary on May 19th
• Spent two weeks in Ireland for our honeymoon
• Proud parents of a 24-year-old daughter, Mara Rose Hughes
• Mara is a University of St. Thomas graduate and works as a brand manager for Mosaic Company in Plymouth
• Mary is a University of Minnesota graduate and works as a new home consultant for Lennar
• My mother’s maiden name is O’Keefe
• My mom’s grandparents were from Country Cork; my dad’s grandparents were from County Tipperary

o Vice president of the University of Minnesota Goal Line Club, official booster club of Golden Gopher football
o Member of the St. Paul Leprechauns
o Member of the St. Paul Oktoberfest planning team
o Avid fan of the St. Paul Saints baseball team
o Do volunteer work at Arlington High School which proudly calls St. Paul home
o My wife, daughter and I are the sponsors of 13 children and their families who now live in St. Paul after living in a refugee camp in Thailand for a number of years
